I understand that in the case of reptiles, gender is determined by temperature. How does this work with respect to X and Y chromosomes? Does temperature change Xs to Ys and/or vice versa?: Scientific American

From the page: "How is the gender of some reptiles determined by temperature?"

I have definitely wondered about this in the past. But the article doesn't explain exactly how gender is determined by temperature. I want to know the specific thermal reaction that occurs, which is what I think was meant by the question. The answer merely affirms that it does occur (well.... duh) and that such an occurrence might not always be exclusive of genotypic sex determination, which is interesting, sure, but is tangential. Thus I feel like the question was never actually answered.
