From the page: "How is the gender of some reptiles determined by temperature?"

I have definitely wondered about this in the past. But the article doesn't explain exactly how gender is determined by temperature. I want to know the specific thermal reaction that occurs, which is what I think was meant by the question. The answer merely affirms that it does occur (well.... duh) and that such an occurrence might not always be exclusive of genotypic sex determination, which is interesting, sure, but is tangential. Thus I feel like the question was never actually answered.

On the following pages we present a grand plan that could provide 69 percent of the U.S.'s electricity and 35 percent of its total energy (which includes transportation) with solar power by 2050. We project that this energy could be sold to consumers at rates equivalent to today's rates for conventional power sources, about five cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). If wind, biomass and geothermal sources were also developed, renewable energy could provide 100 percent of the nation's electricity and 90 percent of its energy by 2100.

No longer merely a weird mammal that lays eggs and has a beak, the platypus is apparently a missing link in evolution: a unique mixture of reptile, bird, and mammal.
